    Whole Kids Club Presents-Cheese Party!

    1-2pm or 3-4pm $8 or $5 for Whole Kids Club members

    What's ooey & gooey and delicious?  CHEESE!  Calling all kids for an hour of fun with cheese!  We'll take a trip to our cheese department for some fun trivia & samples. Then we'll head back to the kitchen to make your own grilled cheese sandwich & mac n' cheese snack!

    Foodies' Guide to Macrobiotics

    6:30-7:30 p.m. $10

    With Chef Amber

    If you are looking for a fresh start to cooking in the New Year, this class is for you.  Come learn, taste & enjoy a variety of delicious recipes in the healthy macrobiotic style; eating seasonally, using whole grains & cooking lighter.  Chef Amber will create simple gourmet dishes using halibut, dark greens & legumes. You'll also discover some great sugar alternatives.  Class is sugar & dairy free.  Pre-registration is required

    Cheese Flight

    1:00-2:00 p.m. $15

    Ever wish you could work at our cheese counter so that you could taste all the different cheeses? You are not alone, by popular demand we are going to be having "cheese flights".  Each class will be hosted by a cheese monger from here at our Lake Calhoun store.  We will talk about the history of cheese, how it is made, and what makes a style unique, and then the fun starts as you taste different examples of the featured style.  This series of classes kicks off with the most popular of all the cheeses-cheddar!  Come and sample the difference between American and English style, raw milk vs. pasteurized, and find out the answer to the most asked question..."why is some of it orange and some is white?". Pre-registration is required.

    Do the Sushi Dance!

    Join Chef Amber as she gives you the basics for sushi making with different fillings and sauces.  Afterwards you'll spend the rest of the class creating your own to enjoy.  Take some rolls home, along with your new sushi rolling mat.  A wheat, dairy & sugar free class.  Pre-registration is required.

In this class, Chef Amber will show you how to create easy & delicious soup recipes perfect for a chilly day.  She'll use tons of seasonal and local ingredients to prepare three healthy, hearty soups that you'll enjoy with some fresh baked bread.  You'll take home the recipes along with a quart of fresh soup!  Nothing comforts the soul like soup does!  Pre-registration is required.

We've invited experienced makeover artist Shelley McCoy to do scheduled makeover consultations using vegan Zuzu Cosmetics.  Makeovers take about 30 minutes each.     Looking for natural ways to age gracefully?  With so many health tips and options out there it can be difficult to find your own way to promote healthy aging.  Robert will share a number of healthy practices for aging gracefully. You'll also sample a variety of items from our Whole Body and Grocery departments such as Cell Food, Goji Berries, and Apple Cider Vinegar.  Plus, he will show you how easy it is to incorporate these healthy foods into your diet.

    Join Chef Amber along with guest Chef Evan Balasuriya, owner of the former Sri Lanka restaurant in Uptown, for a night of good food and fun!  With over 25 years experience in the food business, Chef Evan's passion for food, cooking and health are obvious.  We'll take you around the store to pick up the evening's ingredients; then head back to the kitchen where he will cook up a meal of his famous Sri Lankan delights right before your eyes!  The menu will include Alaskan halibut, free range chicken, Asian lentils & his favorite dark chocolate dessert with fresh mango and grapes!  Pre-registration is required.

    If you feel intimidated by cooking seafood this class is for you!  You'll sail on over to our seafood department with Chef Amber to meet the team and pick up some market fresh fish.  Then head back to the kitchen to learn how to make delicious seafood dishes.  You'll learn different methods for cooking seafood and how to shop for fish.  You'll also take home great new recipes & sample each recipe.  Come hungry.  Pre-registration is required.

    Cooking with family and friends can be so much fun.  Join Kim Dirr as she shows you fast, easy and fun ways to embellish baked goods perfect for the season with her Uppercrust baked goods.  She'll demonstrate various ways to personalize ready to bake dessert items including cookie dough, sweet breads and brownies or "blondies."  In this hands-on class you'll be able to get creative with these goodies and take your creations home to enjoy.  This class is a great project for parents and children!  Class is limited, so sign up fast!  Pre-registration is required.

  • Just for Kids

    Is your child a budding chef? Whole Kids Club classes are a unique way for children to explore new foods in a fun and creative environment. Each class will be designed for a specific age group. Participants will learn about different foods, cooking utensils, and the importance of good eating habits. At the end of the class, each child will be able to take home his/her creation and the recipe to share with the family. Please sign up at the Customer Service Desk. The sign up deadline is two days before the class is scheduled. Class dates are subject to change or cancellation based on number of attendees.

    The Friends of the Minneapolis Public Library present Childish Films @ the Library, a program of classic, independent and new world cinema for ages 3 and up. Presented by Deb Girdwood and Isabelle Harder, children's film curators for the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival, each screening features a pre-show activity.
