The Community Kitchen!

Our new food education center officially opens this month. Look to cooking classes for seasonal recipes, food tastings to try new and exciting products, and educational seminars for tips on bettering yourself and your diet. If you'd like to attend one of our informative classes, we ask that you sign up in advance at our Customer Service desk or by calling 215.481.0800. Seating is limited and we can only guarantee seating for those who have signed up in advance. We hope to see you in the classroom!

    Is one of your New Year's resolutions to cut out sugar? Don't fret, you can still enjoy scrumptious sweets! Come and taste a wide variety of sugar alternatives and learn how to replace sugar in your favorite recipes.

    Instructor: Lois Quigly is a Certified Holistic Health Counselor accredited by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners.  She is also a whole foods cook, life coach, natural products expert and the founder and President of Intrinsic Well Being.

    Do you have foods in your cabinets that have expired? Are irradiated? Filled with of chemicals, dyes and colorings? Start your new year with a clean kitchen that inspires you to eat healthier. At this session, you will learn what foods are hazards to your health and how to rejuvenate your pantry.

    Blood Drive

    Sign up for your time slot at Customer Service. Walk-ins are also welcome.

    It is important to remember that blood cannot be manufactured... the only source is you - the volunteer blood donor. When you give blood, you are doing one of the most amazing things anyone can dream of - saving a life.

    Your blood donation is very important to the health and welfare of hospital patients in our area, as the need for blood is never ending. Blood products play a vital role in saving the lives of:

    • Premature infants
    • Accident / trauma victims
    • Cardiac patients
    • Individuals undergoing chemotherapy for cancer or leukemia
    • Burn victims
    • Surgical patients
    • Hospital patients undergoing an organ or bone marrow transplant
    • Individuals suffering from aplastic or sickle cell anemia

    Although you may never know the recipient(s) of your blood donation, you can be assured that they and their families are extremely grateful. All donors will be entered into a raffle for a $25 gas card and a big screen TV!

    January is National Oatmeal Month! Join us as we explore the wonderful world of oatmeal. Discover shortcuts to making traditional steel cut oats and create delicious breakfasts by adding some traditional (and some not so traditional) treats to your oatmeal. Deirdre will share some of her family recipes and we invite you to bring along your own recipes share with the group.

    Instructor: Trina O'Boyle from the HappyBaby Baby Food Company is the mom of two healthy young boys. As a former teacher, Trina understands how cooking with children can help in the development of fine motor skills, boost self confidence and help form a strong foundation for a healthy and nutritious lifestyle.

    Our new monthly kids cooking class is here! At this event, Trina from HappyBaby will engage preschoolers aged 3-5 in hands-on activities. Each class will focus on healthy organic foods that taste great! Enjoy a story, craft, and interactive demonstration where each child will make a delicious treat. This month it's all about pancakes!

    Do you have a picky toddler? Getting your little one to eat a healthy diet can be a struggle. Learn how high calorie, nutrient packed snacks can help your tiny terror get all the necessary nutrients he needs. We'll prepare several recipes that are sure to become regular weapons in your war against junk food. Kids are welcome to join us as taste testers.
