Community Giving

Community giving at Whole Foods Market is rooted in our belief that corporations, as well as individuals, must be good tenants of the planet. We are intimately connected to the health and economy of each community we serve, and feel it is our responsibility to give back to those communities in meaningful ways. We are committed to donating at least five percent of our annual net profits to charitable causes. For us, giving back expands our passion for quality foods into the larger arena of quality of life.

From Local to Global
At the local level, giving back can mean an individual store donating food to a women's shelter, donating labor to build a playground, or donating dollars to an educational or environmental cause. Learn more about the efforts of your local store by visiting the store's community pages (if listed below) or contacting the Marketing Director at your store.

Regionally, several stores can team up to sponsor an event, such as the Chicago area's Ride for AIDS, or, when needed, all of our stores world-wide work in concert to help victims of disasters like Hurricane Katrina.

Globally, our rapid growth has enabled us to create two foundations that are attempting to effect solutions to global problems. The Animal Compassion Foundation, created in January, 2005, strives to improve the quality of life for farm animals, and the Whole Planet Foundation, created in October, 2005, works to combat poverty in rural communities around the world.

5 Percent Days

Individual stores hold 5% Days (or CommUnity Giving Days), donating 5% of that day's net sales to a local or regional non-profit or educational organization.

How You Can Help

Every time you shop, a portion of your bill goes toward our commitment of donating five percent of net profits to charitable causes. To enhance your involvement, simply watch for signs alerting you to upcoming 5% days at your local Whole Foods Market and then do your normal shopping on that day. Five percent of your total purchases (before taxes) will automatically be donated to the particular cause your store is sponsoring on that day.

How to Request Help

If your non-profit organization is seeking a donation or sponsorship, please contact the Marketing Director at the Whole Foods Market nearest you. Some of our stores provide on-line donation request forms on this site that you can download. Select a store above for more information.

Thank You

Thank you for supporting Whole Foods Market and its mission. Whole Foods, Whole People, Whole Planet is more than just our motto. It's a philosophy and way of life that we work hard to honor each day.
